Chamber News :: Harrison 4th of July Weekend a Success

Thousands of Harrison people and Harrison tourist were able to enjoy a beautiful weekend. Festivities began Saturday 1 pm with an amazing turn out for the Annual Harrison 4th of July Parade. Largest parade Harrison has ever had! This is due to all of the Harrison’s Support groups, Service groups, Local businesses, Local clubs, Harrison youth, Harrison Fire department, Harrison Sheriff department, Harrison Medical department, Beautiful horses, tons of bike riders, Clowns and so many more!
Harrison Chamber of Commerce selected "Salute to Our Troops" as the theme for the parade this year and many of you felt the need and desire to join in! Harrison had some amazing floats this year! Way to go. To reward people for their hard work, the Harrison Chamber of Commerce gave all who entered the parade with a nice participation ribbon, gave out 1st, 2nd and 3rd place ribbons along with a Chamber gift certificates to the following categories:

Most Unique Design Entry

  • 1st place—Hope Baptist Church
  • 2nd place—The Fruit Truck
  • 3rd place—Zulu the Clown

Best Use of Theme Entry

  • 1st place—Glen’s Market of Harrison
  • 2nd place—First Baptist Church
  • 3rd place—American Legion Post #404

Most Patriotic Entry

  • 1st place—Harrison VFW Post #1075
  • 2nd place—Harrison Eagles 3541
  • 3rd place—Family Community Center

Most Beautiful Entry

  • 1st place—Clare County Fairgrounds
  • 2nd place—Relay for Life
  • 3rd place—Clare County Crazy Quilters

Mayor’s Choice Award

  • 1st place-- Putt-R-Golf
  • 2nd place—Clare County Sheriff Mounted Division
  • 3rd place—American Legion Honor Guard

The 4th of July parade was organized and put together by the Harrison Chamber of Commerce with special thanks to the following Volunteers: Debbie Gadberry, Frank Gadberry, Sherry Cox, Andy Cox, Teresa Booms, Tim Ellis, Alice Fink, Donn Fink(thanks for trying!), Tricia Farrell, Honorable Josh Farrell, Mayor Brook Wood, Clare County Reserves and the Clare County Fairgrounds.

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO PARTICIPATED IN THIS YEAR’S PARADE! Just goes to show you how many great people there are in Harrison!

Then the weekend continued Saturday evening at the Clare County Fair grounds. Unique Motors Sports put on a splendid Demo Derby Show for a standing room only crowd. The Harrison Chamber of Commerce then opened up the grassy area and the race track for more room for the crowd. The crowd was excited and the derby drivers had a blast! A lucky 50/50 ticket winner won $481.50 and many received prizes thrown into the stands.

To end the day off spectacularly…A 35 minutes display of fireworks covered the night sky with beautiful colors, sparkles and thrills! What a great way to spend the 4th of July in Harrison, Michigan!

Again many people need to be thanked for their tireless efforts in making this weekend a success and a positive impression of Harrison!
